My Homesteading Secrets are committed to healthy self sufficient lifestyle choices.
We live a relatively self sufficient lifestyle on the North West coast of Tasmania, Australia. We live on a small property growing and producing most of what we eat and consume. Knowing the origin of our food is very important to us. Likewise reducing the food miles and ultimately our ecological footprint.
Over the years we have hosted many international and local guests who are seeking to learn about our healthy self sufficiency lifestyle choices. This continues to be a rewarding experience for both us and our children. Our years of home educating our children draw to a close and the last of our children head off to forge their new lives. My passion for teaching has taken a new direction , this time as a Sustainable living educator/workshop presenter. I have created a workshop program to share many of our self sufficiency and homesteading secrets.
We enjoy growing all our own fruits and vegetables, tending our chickens and keeping our bees. Our harvest season keeps us busy bottling fruits & vegetables, extracting honey, making preserves and pickles, juicing, fermenting, dehydrating and freezing all our produce. Autumn sees the last of harvest, some seed saving, blending of herb and spices, drying of herbal teas and making infusions. Over the winter months we catch up on making our cleaning products, toothpaste, soap, shampoo bars and vinegars. There are always bee boxes to be maintained and garden projects to be finished before the emergence of spring. Spring sees the flurry of preparing our garden beds for the late spring planting and the yearly routine starts all over again.
